ABOUT US

Centre for Information and Research on Urban Settlements (CIRUS) is a non-profit organisation of academics and practitioners in the field of urban design, planning and management.

The strategic focus of CIRUS is to study the transition of the Indian cities in the post liberalisation era. There are several complex and paradoxical features associated with the emerging urban development pattern of India, due to simultaneous coexistence of contrasting forces like globalisation and high economic growth along with centuries old tradition, extreme poverty and the compulsions of democratic politics.

CIRUS provides a platform for dialogue and exchange of ideas among urban experts from different fields, as understanding the complexity of the Indian city requires interdisciplinary approach rising above the confines of narrow discipline specific domains.

The objectives of CIRUS are to -

  • Improve the sustainability of cities through an integrated approach involving environment, energy, economics and social systems
  • Improve the development of urban policy, strategic planning and coordination for urban systems
  • Increase public awareness in India, about urban policy issues through mass media
  • Enhance awareness about the emerging urban scenario in India at the international level

CIRUS welcomes association with other research organisations and individual scholars.
